Self-Reflection

Before water application After water application

Started on a painting I’ve been thinking of doing for years. A self-portrait. It’s a photo I shot in Denver CO when I was in basic training for the Army. We were out and about downtown to practice. I saw this beautiful handle on an old door and I came in close. I noticed the reflection of myself in the twin brass spheres. Ah! A self-portrait. I attempted this painting in pastels before and wasn’t satisfied. This time I’m starting with a Derwent Inktense Stick/water underpainting on Lux Archival paper. This is the underpainting before and after water application. I’m really happy with this and can’t wait to start on the pastel!

Progress: Most of the background is completed with just some tweaks needed. Next is the fun part! The brass door handles!

“Cliffside”

“Cliffside” 2023, 42 x 30, $5000. Another painting from my photographer friend, Darryl. I thought this Maine cliff was amazing. The movement of the scene, the way the rocks fan out from the shore out into the water is wonderful. And the colors!

Progress on the BIG one!

Progress on the BIG ONE! Finally got the top of the cliffs to a point of my satisfaction. Started over four times. Will probably do a few tweaks, but definitely getting there. Loving the process, but very slow going. I’m happy with the pines at the top.
