Progress on the BIG ONE! Finally got the top of the cliffs to a point of my satisfaction. Started over four times. Will probably do a few tweaks, but definitely getting there. Loving the process, but very slow going. I’m happy with the pines at the top.
A shot of the watercolor underpainting for this painting. I have the first layer of the sea and sky in pastel laid down. No title yet. There’s a lot of work to do before it’s done. Reference photo is from another photography friend, Darryl Loiacano, while on his trip to Maine. The original photo is beautiful. The cliffs have a kind of rhythm as they fan out back to the shore. And the blue color near the cave opening is gorgeous. I hope to do it justice. It’s a big one: 36 x 24.
Finally got a new painting out. It’s been a slog. Trying to get out of the doldrums. This is from a reference photo from a fabulous photographer, Rachel Cain. I like the shadow shapes and the colors. And I always like to tackle chrome. This is my birthday present to myself. Happy Birthday to me. Painted on Ampersand Archival pastelbord (gray). It’s 11 x 14 now, but will be framed soon.
